OUR COMMUNITY: If you’re looking for a place where history meets a serious love for the outdoors, you’ve found it in Tumwater. As the oldest American settlement on Puget Sound, we’re a community that’s proud of our roots—from the landmark brewery tower to the misty trails of Tumwater Falls—but we’re definitely not stuck in the past. There’s a specific kind of energy here; it’s a place where neighbors actually know each other’s names and the local schools are the undisputed heart of the town. You get the peace of a tight-knit community with the perks of being right next door to the state capital in Olympia, and when you need a city fix, Seattle and Portland are just a road trip away. We aren’t just looking for an administrator to sit in an office; we’re looking for a leader who wants to grab a coffee at a local spot, cheer at the Friday night games, and truly sink some roots into a community that is deeply invested in its kids.
OUR SCHOOL: If you’re looking for a leadership role that thrives on the unique energy of early adolescence, Tumwater Middle School (TMS) is the place to be. We aren’t just a transitional stop between elementary and high school; we are a vibrant community where students begin to discover who they are and who they want to become. At TMS, we lean into the curiosity and dynamism of our students, fostering an environment where academic rigor is balanced with the high level of support middle schoolers need to truly flourish.
If you’re ready to lead a school that feels like a family, Tumwater Middle School (TMS) is where you want to be. We are a community hub where tradition meets the energy of early adolescence. While we embrace the growth and change inherent in these years, our heart remains centered on connection. At TMS, we live by the idea that it takes our collective strength to champion the middle school journey. We have a staff that is genuinely all-in and a community that understands that when we work together, we ensure every student feels safe, seen, and excited to find their place in the world.
OUR MISSION: Continuous Student Learning in a Caring, Engaging Environment
OUR PROMISE: Every student is known by name, strength and need, and is prepared for the future they envision
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF TUMWATER MIDDLE SCHOOL
As the Assistant Principal at Tumwater Middle School (TMS), you will step into a pivotal leadership role dedicated to navigating the unique, energetic, and transformative years of early adolescence. Your primary purpose is to partner with the Principal in leading school-wide efforts that transform outcomes for all students, ensuring they transition from TMS not just as capable learners, but as future-ready individuals. By focusing on high-leverage instructional practices and fostering deep family and community partnerships, you will help bridge the gap between elementary foundation and high school success.
In alignment with the Tumwater School District Strategic Plan implemented in the 2025-2026 school year, you will be a key driver of our commitment to high expectations and continuous improvement. We are looking for a leader who excels at providing high support to staff while championing culturally responsive practices that honor the diversity of our student body.
