Description
Smith Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full-time Associate Veterinarian with an Urgent Care focus to join our team in Santa Fe, NM.About You
You can care for pets throughout every stage of their lives, build lasting relationships with clients, and become a trusted part of the local community. You’ll work alongside a supportive team in a collaborative environment that values high-quality medicine and compassionate care. You’ll be empowered to focus on what matters most, delivering exceptional care and supporting the health and well-being of every patient. Wherever you are in your career, this is a place where you can continue to grow.
Our progressive compensation model includes competitive base salaries with production compensation opportunities - plus, no negative accrual.
What Urgent Care Looks Like Here
• A compressed week: four 10-hour shifts (or three 12s if you prefer), starting later in the day, around 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Your mornings are yours.
• Real autonomy, real backup: you’ll often be the doctor running urgent care, supported by a 2:1 team. Great if you like owning the case from triage to discharge.
• The tools to work it up on the spot: an oxygen ICU, isolation wards, two ultrasound units, digital and dental radiography, a full in-house lab, and an in-house pharmacy. Plus a rotating surgery day every other week.
• A chance to build something: we’re working toward urgent care five days a week, and you’ll have a real voice in shaping it. Prefer a GP/urgent care blend? We’re open to that too.
About Smith Veterinary Hospital
Smith Veterinary Hospital opened in 1946. In 1950, our founder, Dr. Edwin J. Smith, treated a badly burned bear cub rescued from a New Mexico wildfire, the cub the world came to know as Smokey Bear. More than 75 years later, we’re still here, and the fourth generation of the Smith family still works in our hospital.
We’re an AAHA-accredited, feline-friendly certified general practice with a strong urgent care component, located in the heart of Santa Fe, focusing on wellness, same-day sick visits, internal medicine, dentistry, surgery, and urgent cases that need hospitalization or surgical intervention. Our hospital has a fast-paced, collaborative environment where everyone’s opinion counts, and a loyal client base that spans generations of Santa Fe families, along with plenty of new clients and traveling pets. We pride ourselves on treating every pet as if it were our own, protecting the human-animal bond, and honesty with clients and with each other. Clear communication, a team-first mindset, and comfort with asking questions and taking feedback are all equally important.
Our clients say it best: they come back because we fit them in when their pet can’t wait, and because our team’s compassion shows from the moment they walk through the door. Our 12,640 sq. ft. hospital has separate canine and feline wings (with a separate cat entrance), 10 exam rooms, a comfort room, and a two-table surgical suite.
Santa Fe has a small-town feel without being a small town. You’ll find hiking, fishing, and hunting minutes away, a historic downtown full of galleries and one-of-a-kind shops, and Albuquerque’s big-city amenities about an hour down the road.
We are open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
Serving Santa Fe County and northern New Mexico.
