About the City of Wayne:
The City of Wayne is undergoing a transformative period of revitalization and growth. With park improvements that include $2.3 million in grants to redevelop Goudy Park, including a new amphitheater, concession area and dining area, (completed this year), and a new playscape, splash pad, parking lots, and signage planned for 2026, the city’s most prominent gathering hub promises to be a spectacular venue to host our Concert in Park series and multiple community events. Additional Park grants have been secured for new walking trails and pickleball courts in some neighborhood parks and are also planned for Spring of 2026 construction.
Our downtown area, rich with historic architecture and the scenic Rouge River, is home to shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and churches—all within a 15-minute walk, and the DDA has plans for enhancements to Derby’s Ally, streetscaping, façade improvements, and wayfinding signage throughout our city. Our Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is strong and active, and we’re seeking a visionary City Planner to help shape Wayne into a modern, connected, and thriving destination.
In Community Development, we are preparing for construction of a new housing development that will bring us approximately 70-75, $250K-350K homes on the City’s Southeast end starting next spring, and we currently have multiple developers interested in building new Brownstone Condo’s and mixed-use buildings in our downtown next year, that will add diversity to our housing options in our neighborhoods and downtown!
On the infrastructure, transportation, and connectivity side of the house, the city has healthy funds to restart water, local road, and trail projects after a 4-year hiatus to focus on a $5.6M lead line replacement project. The City of Wayne is the first community in the county to become lead-free. It is now anxious to move forward to replace watermains, local roads, and add trail connectivity to improve utility services, transportation, and recreational opportunities for our residents, businesses, visitors, and guests.
With top-notch experienced professionals running every department, and a chief administrator and city council that are working together in collaboration to move our city forward, the City of Wayne is a place where your talent and commitment will be valued and respected. If you are looking for an opportunity to put your skills, experience, and creativity to work in a way that will make a positive difference that is both visible and viable, this is the position for you. We are on a mission that will be transformative, uplifting, and impactful for generations to come. If this challenge sounds like something you would like to be a part of, please apply.
