Description
OverviewSULPHUR PARKS AND RECREATION SEEKS A PGA PROFESSIONAL
Sulphur Parks & Recreation (SPAR) is a special tax district providing recreation opportunities to the residents of Ward 4 District 2 of Calcasieu Parish. The City of Sulphur, Louisiana, named for the chemical and mining industry that helped to
establish Calcasieu Parish in the late 1800s, is the 13th largest city in the state with a population of nearly 22,000. Sulphur is referred to as "the pride of Southwest Louisiana", drawing that slogan from citizens who take pride in their heritage, as
well as the future of Sulphur. Located 10 miles to the west of Lake Charles, equal distance between Baton Rouge, LA and Houston, TX, our district is a strong family-oriented community with a host of events occurring each year. Visitors and residents of Sulphur might see snowflakes during the Christmas Under the Oaks Festival located at the Brimstone Museum Complex which includes a holiday house, live music, Louisiana's only balloon parade and carnival rides. The area is also home to one of the oldest fairs in the state, the Cal-Cam Fair, which celebrates the cultures of Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes each Fall. Sulphur is brimming with youth sports each summer, and you can literally hear cheering fans in the air while splashing in the outdoor water park. The city is known as the gateway to the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road with the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge just down the road from the Henning Cultural Center, featuring rotating exhibits.
It is the goal of Sulphur Parks and Recreation to provide the finest sports, recreation, and park facilities and the fairest and most inclusive sports and recreation programs possible; that all persons be treated equally without regard to race, sex, ability, social standing, economic status, etc.; upheld to the highest possible standards.
In addition to providing the leading aquatics facilities in Louisiana, SPAR also maintains over 550 acres of parks and recreation facilities including a waterpark, community pool, golf course, cultural museum, dog park, multiple gymnasiums and
ball parks. SPAR is host to various prestigious events including USSSA World Series, LHSAA State Championship Softball, Baseball, and Swim Meets.
Available compensation includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, generous compensated leave, defined benefit pension plan through Parochial Employees' Retirement System of Louisiana, and a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
