MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The main purpose of this Health Officer position is to direct and manage the activities of the Somerset County Health Department. The County Health Officer assesses community health needs, plans, develops, implements, directs, coordinates, evaluates and provides leadership in a variety of public health programs; coordinates programmatic activities with federal, state, and local agencies; enforces laws and regulations that protect the health and safety of the public; monitors for, investigates, and controls outbreaks of disease; informs the public about disease prevention and promotes healthy behaviors; and assures that the public health workforce remains competent. The Health Officer is also the executive officer of the County Boards of Health.
This position may require evening and weekend hours and is considered Emergency Essential.
