Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Pro Trailers Division of PolyJohn Enterpises
Location: Thomasville, Salisbury, NC area
Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our Pro Trailers division in Thomasville, Salisbury, NC area. This role will report directly to the General Manager and play a critical part in the design, development, and continuous improvement of our restroom trailers. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in trailer design and manufacturing, along with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop over-the-road trailers, components, and systems from concept through production
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure efficient and cost-effective production
- Ensure all designs meet or exceed applicable regulatory standards, including NHTSA, FMCSA, and DOT requirements
- Conduct structural analysis, testing, and validation of trailer designs to ensure safety, durability, and performance
- Support prototype builds, field testing, and troubleshooting efforts
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing products, focusing on quality, manufacturability, and cost reduction
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and compliance records
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing technologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (required)
- 3+ years of experience in over-the-road trailer design and manufacturing (required)
- Strong knowledge of NHTSA, FMCSA, and DOT regulations and compliance standards
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Experience with structural analysis and materials selection
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, fabrication, and assembly
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in heavy-duty trailer or transportation equipment manufacturing
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- Project management experience
