Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital is recruiting two Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) Pediatric Surgeons to join an established team of 5 pediatric surgeons in Charlotte, North Carolina. These are hospital-employed positions carrying a faculty appointment through Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
This is a heavily clinical practice with a growing clinical and translational research focus, at a pivotal moment of expansion for the pediatric surgery service line as Levine Children's builds toward a more freestanding children's hospital model.
About Levine Children's Hospital & Pediatric Surgery
Levine Children's Hospital is widely regarded as the most comprehensive children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington, D.C., and has been recognized among the "Best Children's Hospitals" for 19 consecutive years by U.S. News and World Report, with national Top 50 rankings across 7 pediatric specialties.
The Pediatric Surgery division delivers the full breadth of general pediatric surgical, thoracic and trauma care for children of all ages, backed by leading clinical infrastructure:
- Level IV NICU — the region's largest, serving as the primary referral hub for critically ill newborns and infants with complex congenital disease
- Dedicated pediatric and pediatric cardiac/cardiovascular intensive care units with 44 specialized critical care beds
- The region's only pediatric ECMO program
- The only American College of Surgeons (ACS)-verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the Charlotte region
- Advanced video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic surgery capability
- Active participation in the Pediatric National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP-P)
Academic Affiliation & Program Growth
All members of the group hold academic appointments within the Department of Pediatrics. In 2025, Wake Forest University School of Medicine opened its first four-year medical school campus in Charlotte, located in the city's Innovation District, deepening the academic partnership between Atrium Health and Wake Forest. Levine Children's Pediatric Surgery maintains a strong affiliation with the fully accredited General Surgery Residency. We are seeking candidates with a genuine commitment to resident, APP and medical student education alongside clinical and translational research.
This is an active period of program-building. Levine Children's is transitioning toward a more freestanding children's hospital as part of an evolving Women's & Children's facility. Adult service lines — which currently share significant resources with pediatrics — are scheduled to relocate to a separate facility on the same campus in 2027, freeing up space and resources dedicated specifically to pediatric growth. New surgeons will play a direct role in shaping and building out pediatric surgery programs and services throughout this transition.
