- Public Safety Information Specialist
Description
-Answers incoming emergency and non-emergency calls; interviews callers and gathers details; prioritizes calls for service and determines appropriate personnel to respond; dispatches emergency responders; relays pertinent information to law enforcement and emergency services officers concisely; provides information and assistance to the public within the scope of authority.
-Provides detailed call information to officers as needed; maintains status and awareness of Police patrol unit locations; monitors message traffic and relays information to officers.
-Enters emergency assistance calls into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) incident logs; inputs information into the ACJIS & NCIC computer system; maintains records and files.
-Contacts other law enforcement agencies for additional information and resources as needed, and relays pertinent information regarding incidents.
-Notifies key City of Buckeye personnel on critical incidents; follows all Department policies and procedures to assure that officer and public safety is the top priority.
-Enters and verifies warrant information and confirms warrants for other agencies.
-Performs inquiries and criminal history checks for officers through ACJIS & NCIC; sends inquiries to other agencies for warrant confirmations or general information.
-Enters data for records and reports; processes forms and record files; queries system databases as requested. Knowledge of equipment utilized in law enforcement communications including radio, computer and dispatch equipment.
-Performs other duties as assigned or required.
-Demonstrate speed, fluidity, and accuracy in concurrently operating multiple technologies under stressful and time pressure conditions.
-Type brief, concise and accurate written statements.
-Appropriately employ the department’s Records Management System suite of applications, Computer Aided Dispatch software, Evidence.com evidence management software, and other task specific software packages.
-Maintain confidentiality and security of highly sensitive information and other records.
-Ability to act independently.
-Demonstrates strong attention to detail in locating addresses, nearby video assets and associated call related data during a call for service.
-Simultaneously listens to public safety radio transmissions, monitors calls for service on Computer Aided Dispatch screens, and views selected public-private video assets.
-Observes, detects, and appropriately reports to dispatchers and responding officers elements of crime that are observed through video streams. Recognizes suspicious behaviors and circumstances appearing on video feeds, and records date, time and camera location, or digitally record those activities when appropriate under policy.
-Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, facts and circumstances of importance during and immediately following a police response to crime, often during dynamic and stressful conditions.
-Notifies officers of locations of crimes in progress.
-Conducts open source and restricted queries using specialized criminal justice intelligence-based databases. Provides intelligence sharing and investigative assistance to patrol, investigation, and other public safety personnel in real time.
-Operates desktop, laptop, network, and secure system computers; public safety radios and telephones; access, navigate and record when permissible under policy, disparate video systems accessible through RTIC platform; operate other equipment as assigned.
-Performs key functions requiring technical expertise and attention to detail such as entry, query, and retrieval of investigative data; location of source documents and reports from a variety of computer networks to include police department, city, state, county, and federal computer systems, as well as investigative, intelligence and open-source applications.
-Applies criminal justice and legal protocols, follows all related agency policies, and exercises technical expertise in the capture, preparation, and storage of data and video work product.
-Creates and manages spreadsheets and other analytical tools as needed.
-Maintains clarity of thought and performance of duty during stressful situations.
-Interacts with co-workers and the public with tact, diplomacy, and effectiveness.
-Participates in on-going training to remain current in work methods, procedures, and related laws.
-Accepts direction from supervisor(s) and carries out assigned tasks.
Requirements
Knowledge of:

Special Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year experience as a public safety dispatcher in a law enforcement agency and one (1) year of clerical and computer experience.
Must obtain Terminal Operator Certification Level A within six months of hire if not possessed at time of hire/placement. Must be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute. Working nights, weekends and holidays is required.
Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of the information handled, successful completion of a polygraph and comprehensive background investigation is required.
