Description
The Village of Northfield is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Building Official to join our Community Development Department. The Building Official is responsible for
ensuring compliance with Village building, zoning, property maintenance, stormwater management and related codes and ordinances, supervising/performing inspections, and providing professional guidance to residents, contractors, and design professionals.
The starting salary is approximately $110,000–120,000, dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications. The position is located at Village Hall (361 Happ Road) and is fulltime, at-will, non-exempt status with working hours generally between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, for 37.5 hours per week. Position Summary
Under administrative direction, the Building Official (“Official”) is responsible for ensuring compliance with Village building, zoning, and related codes and ordinances. The Official directs and participates in the inspection, review, and approval of building construction, alterations, and system installations to ensure conformance with applicable codes, safety standards, and municipal requirements. The Official works closely with the Community Development Director and Village Manager to ensure the Building, Zoning, Code Enforcement, and Community Development functions are carried out effectively and efficiently.

Requirements
- Post-secondary coursework in construction management, engineering architecture or a
related field and five years of relevant experience is required or equivalent combination of
experience, training and education. - Possession of applicable International Code Council (ICC) certifications required or obtainable within 12 months of employment.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
