**5% General Wage Increase is Scheduled for July 1, 2026**

Additional Compensation: 8% holiday pay in lieu of holidays off.
Based on approximately 16 overtime hours worked per week, additional pay ranges from
$713 to $786 weekly, in accordance with FLSA guidelines for hours worked beyond the standard 40-hour work week
Overtime hourly rate: $44.57 - $49.13

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under direction of the Ambulance Supervisor and Senior Single Role Paramedic provides the highest-level emergency medical care at the basic life support (BLS) level while assisting paramedics in providing advanced life support care. The Emergency Medical Technician will respond to both critical and non-critical medical responses working with a paramedic partner and members of an engine or truck company on certain responses. The incumbent may be assigned to a BLS unit that focuses on non-critical responses. Members assigned to a BLS unit may respond along with other MOFD units to critical calls.

Examples of Duties

•  Assist crew in maintaining vehicle readiness in accordance with MOFD policies and procedures.
• Ensure appropriate level of cleanliness for all EMS supplies stocked on the member’s assigned ambulance.
• Ensures all EMS supplies and equipment is maintained in a ready status such that response is never delayed.
• Responds to EMS calls across the district. Operate MOFD EMS vehicles in accordance with all California Vehicle Codes and District regulations.
• On scene provides appropriate level of BLS assessments and interventions.
• Assists paramedics in performing ALS functions.
• Provides care according to the standards established by the Contra Costa LEMSA policies and protocols.
• Provides care and transportation to people experiencing medical emergencies ensuring patients are transported to receiving facilities as outlined in the Contra Costa LEMSA policy manual.
• Provides appropriate care and documentation for individuals refusing care or transport.
• Follows the direction of incident commanders during large-scale responses such as structure or wildland fires.
• Performs station duties as assigned by the station captain.
• Takes part in drills and other training.
• Maintains all appropriate licenses and certifications.
• Participate in community outreach activities.
• Timely completion of reports.
• Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

 Education and Work Experience: 

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.
• Accredited EMT in Contra Costa County or the ability to obtain accreditation within six (6) months of appointment.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Possession of a valid California EMT Certification at time of application. Ability to maintain a valid California EMT Certification.
• Must possess valid AHA and CPR certifications at time of application. 

Knowledge of:

• Applicable Federal, State, County, Local and District regulations, practices, and procedures.
• Principles of emergency ambulance and transportation procedures including first aid, resuscitator, and gurney operations, including safe emergency work practices.
• Infectious disease control procedures.
• Emergency radio communication procedures.
• Medical terminology and documentation.
• Emergency vehicle maintenance and operation.
• Local EMS policies, protocols and committees.
• Working with members of the public and responding with professionalism.

Skills in:

• Communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing.
• Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook email communication.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely.
• Handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly and professionally.
• Be punctual, reliable, personable and professional.
• Effectively manage conflicting priorities.

Ability to:

• Read electronic and incident maps and follow map directions.
• Work effectively in difficult and hazardous emergency situations and environments and carry out work assignments as instructed.
• Safely and properly transport patients during ambulance transportation.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate effectively with the public and fellow employees.

Physical Demands:

• Outside environment; exposure to noise and heavy equipment; work in inclement weather conditions; exposure to hazardous materials.
• Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, bending, climbing or crouching; strength to lift up to 100 pounds.
