The Inpatient Gastroenterology APP provides comprehensive care to hospitalized patients in collaboration with GI Hospitalists and Gastroenterologists. This role supports the inpatient GI service through patient rounding, care coordination, procedural support, and management of GI-related conditions while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct daily inpatient rounds and evaluate patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
Manage admissions, consultations, progress notes, and discharge planning.
Assist physicians with GI procedures as appropriate.
Interpret diagnostic studies, laboratory results, and imaging findings.
Coordinate care with hospitalists, nursing staff, specialists, and ancillary services.
Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Facilitate smooth transitions of care and coordinate outpatient follow-up appointments.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support service line goals.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
Board certified/eligible (PA-C or NP)
GI experience preferred; new graduates with strong inpatient training will be considered
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Strong clinical judgment and procedural skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
Ability to manage complex inpatient medical conditions.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
Work Environment
Primarily hospital-based inpatient practice.
Works closely with GI Hospitalists and Gastroenterologists.
Involves inpatient rounding, consultation management, procedural support, and coordination of outpatient follow-up care.
