Under the direction of the Superintendent or General Foreman, a Repairperson A is responsible for repairing NJ TRANSIT buses for maintenance work.
Main Functions
Assists the Repairman A and B in the diagnosis of mechanical problems and the adjustment, repair, or replacement of parts and units to correct any problems found.
Performs brake relines with supervision from the Repairman A and B.
Assists the Repairman A and B in the replacement or repair of chassis components.
Assists the Repairman A and B in the repairing of defects and the servicing of road cells to keep buses on the road.
Assists the Mechanic A in the removal, replacement, and/or alignment of all body parts and components to maintain the adequate appearance of the bus.
Performs minor inspections, including the recording of results and taking corrective action when appropriate to insure a safe bus.
Conducts brake tests, including the recording of results to ensure a safe bus system.
Services all filters on the bus to improve bus performance.
Performs required periodic lubrication of all bus components in order to meet lubrication chart and maintenance manual specifications.
Performs other duties as may be required within Bus Maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills Needed:
Ability to diagnosis and correct basic mechanical problems and determine the proper tools needed.
A knowledge of basic hand tools, including all wrenches, sockets, and ratches as required.
Ability to read gauges and measuring devices and comprehend basic mathematics.
Ability to read and write English, along with the ability to read and understand bus maintenance manuals and procedures.
Must have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other individuals in the workplace.
Proven ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and follow established procedures.
Must be able to speak and understand English.
