CICU Physician Assistant Opportunity at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia!

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is currently seeking breakthrough makers for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit!

The Cardiac Center is a multidisciplinary center that consist of five major hospital departments: Cardiology Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Cardiac Critical Care medicine and Cardiac Nursing.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is a 34-bed unit caring for critically ill children pre- and post- surgery and/or children awaiting transplantation Out surgical team performs more than 850 pediatric heart surgeries each year, inducing open heart and closed heart procedures and heart transplant- with outcomes that are among the best in the nation.

Our APP team consists of Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and House Physicians providing 24-hour coverage, 365 days per year. Our APPs are passionate about their work, and their influence extends beyond the hospital to community and global initiatives.

Job Summary

In collaboration with an attending physician, the Front-Line Ordering Clinician (FLOC) Physician Assistant is responsible for the direct care and follow-up of a population of patients that matches his/her delineation of privileges and skill set. This care is delivered in defined inpatient and hospital-outpatient areas. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research. The PAs in these roles may be required to have acute/critical care education and certification. The appropriate education/certification will be determined by the scope of the role in a particular practice area. The clinical portion of this role will require increased level of accountability including managing a cohort of high acuity patients. In addition to managing patient care, the FLOC PA may be required to utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability. The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off-shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.

Requirements

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • NCCPA- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Physician Assistant state license- PA
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctorate as applicable to correlating physician assistant program.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctorate as applicable to correlating physician assistant program

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community. In keeping with this, CHOP has mandated all workforce members on site at any CHOP location for any portion of their time be vaccinated for COVID-19. This mandate also applies to workforce members performing work for CHOP at non-CHOP locations. The CHOP COVID-19 vaccine mandate is in alignment with applicable local, state and federal mandates.

CHOP also requires all workforce members who work in patient care buildings or who provide patient care to receive an annual influenza vaccine. Employees may request exemption consideration for CHOP vaccine requirements for valid religious and medical reasons.

Please note start dates may be delayed until candidates are fully immunized or valid exemption requests are reviewed. In addition, candidates other than those in positions with regularly scheduled hours in New Jersey, must attest to not using tobacco products.
