Description

The County of Glenn is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Public Works to oversee a diverse and high-impact portfolio critical to the County’s safety, sustainability, and long-term growth. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and Board of Supervisors, this executive leadership role oversees engineering, transportation planning, road maintenance, sanitation services, airports, and flood control operations. The Director leads a highperforming team and manages a significant operating and capital improvement program (CIP) budget, ensuring the delivery of critical infrastructure and public services across the County.

The ideal candidate is a decisive and collaborative leader with a strong understanding of infrastructure systems, capital project delivery, and public works operations. This individual brings sound judgment, political acumen, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments while building trust with staff, elected officials, and the community.

The Director of Public Works serves as the County’s senior leader for infrastructure and public works services, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and policy guidance across multiple functional areas. The position leads a $25 million operating and capital program and directs a skilled management team responsible for delivering essential services countywide.
The Director holds key statutory and regional leadership roles, including Executive Director for multiple special districts and commissions. This role requires leading complex capital projects, coordinating multi-agency initiatives, securing and managing funding, and representing the County at regional, state, and community levels.
Success in this role requires the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, balance competing priorities, and deliver results in a highly visible and impactful leadership position.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade & graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in a related field.
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in Public Works, Engineering, Construction or other related field with three (3) years in the supervisory capacity.

License & Special Requirements:
Requires a valid California driver's license
