What You'll Do
Operate heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and specialized utility equipment
Assist with electric distribution infrastructure projects
Load, transport, and manage materials and supplies
Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently
Support installation, maintenance, and repair activities involving electrical distribution systems
Maintain equipment and ensure operational readiness
Document completed work and maintain accurate records
Assist customers and support departmental operations
Work closely with utility crews to help maintain reliable electric service throughout Columbia
Minimum Qualifications
Education- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience- One to three years of experience operating heavy equipment, working in construction, utilities, or a related field
Licenses & Certifications- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Required division-specific CDL endorsements within six months of hire
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification
Ideal Candidates Will Have- Experience operating heavy construction equipment, Strong commitment to safety
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and customer service skills
Interest in utility operations and infrastructure maintenance
Dependability and a strong work ethic

Additional Requirement
Utilities Department employees must establish and maintain a residence within 50 road miles of Columbia City Hall within 90 days of hire.
