Major Position Duties: 1. Report and maintain school buses and other school vehicles. 2. Conduct routine preventative maintenance and safety checks on all vehicles as required or requested. Determine which parts are worn or broken that need replacement or adjustment. 3. Perform corrective maintenance based on determination. 4. Dispatches replacement buses or vehicles involved in accidents or breakdowns. 5. Follow all OSHA Federal and State safety standards for safe shop and vehicle operations. 6. Determine the need for a spare bus when emergency road service is requested, if the bus requiring repair can continue in use. 7. Obtain repair parts as required or directed. 8. Maintain a clean, safe and orderly tool room and shop. 9. Complete vehicle repair orders as required. 10. Assist with inventory control. 11. Keep a daily work log and complete maintenance records. 12. Drive bus as a substitute when assigned. 13. Ability to read diagnostic devices and troubleshoot error codes. 14. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements: 1. High school diploma or GED and/or two-year vocational diploma in gas or diesel engine repair. 2. Must possess a First Aide Certificate. 3. Must possess a School Bus Endorsement Class B commercial driver's license. 4. Knowledge and skill of gasoline and diesel engine maintenance and repair. 5. Knowledge and skill of exhaust and vehicle electrical systems, automatic and standard transmissions, hydraulic and air brakes, front axle, king pin, spring shackle and spring repair. 6. Knowledge and skill of heating and cooling system repair. 7. Knowledge and skill of bus door and window operation, headlight adjustment, seat repair, tires and balancing. 8. Knowledge and skill of the operation and repair of vehicle safety equipment 9. Familiar with various maintenance manuals. 10. Knowledge of bus routes, laws and regulations. 11. Knowledge of emergency procedures, two-way radio, road and highway hazards. 12. Must possess the ability to perform gas and ARC welding. 13. Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively, good personal appearance and a cooperative attitude required
